Sounds that build anticipation of something wonderful....

The popping of movie popcorn
The churning of an ATM before it spits out cash
The opening bars of the (old skool) Star Wars theme
The sound of milk being heated at a coffee bar
A bathtub being filled
The sound of massage oil being rubbed between the hands of a masseuse

Others?

  6. Love this list!

    My own personal favorites:
+ The sound of violinists (or a band) tuning up
+ People taking seats at a stadium
+ The sound of flame from a hot air balloon's blast valve

+ Trickles that signal the spring thaw
Love the musicians tuning up, too.

  10. As others have mentioned: the pop of a champagne cork. I also like hearing the steam on espresso makers, the crackle of a fire and the snapping of graham crackers and chocolate bars.

  11. Buzz saw of jet engine turbine blades, going locally supersonic, just after take-off

The stupid introduction to the United in-flight video featuring Jeff Smisek (enough already!)
